L031 Peppermint Pleco
Size

Remarks:  The L031 peppermint pleco is an elegant loricariid from the Rio Xingu in Brazil. They live in areas with strong currents and rocky bottoms where they hide in the cracks between rocks. Most would suspect that conditions like this would result in the L031 peppermint pleco preferring cooler water, but quite the opposite is true as they prefer warmer temperatures compared to other loricariids. They do, however, still require very pristine water with a high oxygen content so heavy aeration and frequent water changes are a must.

If cared for properly, this medium sized pleco can be a dazzling addition to the aquarium. Their dark brown to jet black bodies and fins look like the night sky with the white speckles that cover them. Typically these spots start out larger while the fish is younger and decrease in size but increase in abundance as they age. While they will eat algae, L031 peppermint plecos are omnivores and require a varied diet of both vegetarian and carnivorous foods to remain healthy. Providing plenty of hiding spaces will make this species feel safe enough to venture out more for you to see their beautiful patterns and fascinating behavior.
