Remarks: The Colombian green severums we currently have are wild caught and will be much less tolerant of pollutants and incorrect water parameters compared to our captive bred fish. However, this also means they will be pure compared to the likely hybrids that are common within the hobby and have much healthier genetics.
Severums have been a mainstay in the aquarium hobby for decades. They grow large enough to act as centerpieces, but they are not tank-busters, and they come in a variety of color patterns. These mid-sized cichlids are typically peaceful unless they are spawning. Small tank mates that can fit in their mouths and plants usually do not mix well with severums as they are likely to be eaten. Colombian green severums have a very elaborate body color, ranging from green to blue to red depending on light and mood. Sometimes they will even display a series of black vertical bars the run halfway up their body except for the one at the base of the tail that extends all the way to their back. A constant coloration among healthy specimens is their vibrant reddish-orange ventral and anal fins that provide a healthy flash of color.
