Remarks: Mesoheros ornatus are rare, colorful cichlids from Colombia and North Ecuador in South America. Upon maturity and under the right conditions, the bodies of males are covered in vibrant blue-green spots, have large black spots, and an over all green or yellow coloration. The dorsal, tail, and anal fins can also display an orange-red coloration. Being large and territorial, care should be taken to provide ample space and appropriate tanks mates, such as similarly sized cichlids, for this species.
