Remarks: Melanotaenia etnaensis was collected by Heiko Bleher many years ago. Gary Lange was the only person in the United States keeping this species until he gave eggs to Marcel Wuethrich in January 2021. This species is rare in the hobby, and is well known for the spectacular array of colors on its underside. This species is generally found in deeper pools within Etna Bay littered with fallen logs and branches from the surrounding rainforest.
